Medicine in United Kingdom

The UK offers English-language undergraduate medicine, commonly over five or six years, followed by supervised Foundation training. For 2027 entry the main UCAS medicine deadline is 15 October 2026, while the 2026 UCAT testing window has already closed. Tuition can rise sharply between preclinical and clinical years.

STUDENT POPULATION CONTEXT

685,565

2024/25

Students with a non-UK permanent address studying at UK higher education providers.

What this figure includes

Domicile-based enrolment measure, not new arrivals; overseas transnational education is reported separately.

This is not a count of new arrivals and is not directly comparable with every other country.

TUITION

International undergraduate tuition: £11,400–£38,000/year

Programme quotes take precedence; course length and higher-cost subjects affect total cost.

Cost reference checked 2026-09-22
LIVING COSTS

Outside London: £900–£1,300/month

British Council planning ranges, not a ceiling or a visa requirement. Check actual accommodation and household circumstances.

SOURCE-LINKED APPLICATION GUIDES

Go deeper into United Kingdom.

Your United Kingdom application, step by step.

Official starting points and application framework; not a complete university or programme catalogue.

Search by course and qualification, then confirm teaching language, campus and current entry requirements on the university page. The directory is not an English-only guarantee.

01Build a course shortlist

Compare course content and international qualification requirements before paying an application or test fee. Keep the exact course code, campus, award and entry year in your shortlist.

  • Read required subjects and qualification equivalencies for your education system.
  • Confirm the language of the entire selected course; an English website alone is insufficient.
02Choose the right application route

Undergraduate applications commonly use UCAS. Many postgraduate courses take direct applications through the university; some specialist routes have their own system. Follow the course instructions.

  • Check UCAS cycle dates for undergraduate study and any earlier subject or institution deadline.
  • For postgraduate study, record course and funding deadlines separately; a course without a fixed deadline can still fill.
03Work backwards from the offer

Plan qualification documents, references and any required English results before the deadline. An offer may remain conditional until academic or language conditions are met.

  • Record offer-acceptance, deposit and final-document dates from your actual offer.
  • Allow time for the university to issue the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies required for a Student visa application.
04Check the Student visa route

If you need a Student visa, use the UK government checklist for your nationality and circumstances. Admission and visa permission are separate decisions.

  • Check the licensed sponsor, English evidence and financial evidence rules.
  • Use the current government page for application windows, fees and supporting documents.

Build your own timeline

Relative planning stages; institution and applicant-specific deadlines must be checked.

Record course, scholarship, test, document, deposit and visa dates separately. No individual 2027 intake deadline is confirmed by this overview.

Exams to research

These are research links, not a statement that every institution accepts or requires each exam. Check the exact programme, intake, test version, minimum component scores and visa rules.

Coverage and source notes
  • No universal postgraduate deadline or English-test threshold is supplied.
  • This guide does not confirm 2027 entry availability for an individual course.

Before you decide

Look at both
sides of the route.

Why students consider United Kingdom

  • One-year master’s degrees
  • Specialised programmes
  • Foundation routes
  • Global university choice

What needs careful planning

  • Total cost of study
  • Course value and outcomes
  • CAS and visa timelines
  • Accommodation planning

What the brochure rarely explains

Plan the whole
student journey.

Admission is one milestone. The right decision also accounts for money, documentation, learning style and life after graduation.

01

Course depth

The UK offers enormous choice. Module content, placement structure and accreditation often matter more than the university name alone.

02

Total investment

Tuition, accommodation, transport, health surcharge and personal costs should be modelled before accepting an offer.

03

Offer strategy

Conditional offers are common. Students need a plan for each remaining academic, English or deposit condition.

  3. 03

Meet academic, English and deposit conditions before CAS issuance.

  4. 04

Prepare financial evidence and the student-visa application within the permitted window.

From eligibility
to arrival.

We can help review your profile, compare courses and institutions, prepare applications, organise documents and plan the visa and departure stages.

First answer: should you apply?

The useful question is not only “Can I get an offer?” It is whether the academic, financial and career logic remains strong after the excitement of admission.

Why are UK master’s degrees often one year?+

They are usually intensive programmes with a shorter calendar. The format reduces time away from work but demands strong academic readiness.

Should I choose by ranking?+

Rankings can help, but course modules, accreditation, location, placement access and affordability should carry equal or greater weight.
