Choice, research + flexible academic routes

Study in
United States.

A high-opportunity destination with exceptional course breadth, flexible pathways and substantial scholarship variation—best approached with a balanced academic and financial shortlist.

Medicine in United States

The usual US physician route is a bachelor’s degree with the required premedical coursework, followed by four years of medical school and postgraduate residency. It is not a standard direct-after-Class-XII MBBS route. International eligibility and access to funding vary substantially between medical schools.

STUDENT POPULATION CONTEXT

1,177,766 including OPT

2024/25

Open Doors international undergraduate, graduate and non-degree students plus people undertaking Optional Practical Training.

What this figure includes

Includes 294,253 OPT participants. The separate count of first-time international college/university entrants is 277,118; this headline is not that count.

This is not a count of new arrivals and is not directly comparable with every other country.

TUITION

Illinois example: USD 42,248–53,078 tuition + fees/year

2026/27 institutional example before aid. Major affects the price; housing, food, books and other expenses are separate. This is one university, not a US average.

Your United States application, step by step.

Official starting points and application framework; not a complete university or programme catalogue.

A government research starting point, not a national English-only degree inventory. Continue to each institution’s official programme catalogue; confirm delivery language and accreditation separately.

01Research fit and academic entry

EducationUSA recommends beginning research well before the intended start. Compare institutions by programme fit, entry requirements, total cost and support rather than treating a ranking as an admissions decision.

  • Choose the degree level and department before selecting tests.
  • Save official curriculum, English-language requirements and institution application instructions.
02Plan several deadlines

Applications are institution-specific. Undergraduate admission plans, graduate department deadlines and funding competitions can have different dates and conditions.

  • Check whether tests are required, optional or not considered for your programme and entry year.
  • Give referees and document issuers time; track financial-aid and scholarship deadlines independently.
  • For research degrees, follow department instructions on supervisors and research proposals.
03From acceptance to student visa

For the F or M student route, acceptance by a SEVP-certified school begins the immigration process. The school supplies Form I-20 after the relevant process; students then follow SEVIS and consular instructions.

  • Check the correct visa category and SEVIS I-901 fee procedure.
  • Complete the appropriate visa application and follow embassy or consulate appointment instructions.
  • Do not treat admission, an I-20 or a tuition payment as a visa guarantee.
04Verify English at programme level

A university’s English-test policy does not establish the language of every degree, placement or clinical component. Confirm the full study plan and any professional requirements with the department.

  • Keep the programme policy link and the date checked.
  • Use the university’s score-reporting instructions and allow time for delivery before its deadline.

Build your own timeline

Relative planning stages; institution and applicant-specific deadlines must be checked.

Record course, scholarship, test, document, deposit and visa dates separately. No individual 2027 intake deadline is confirmed by this overview.

Exams to research

These are research links, not a statement that every institution accepts or requires each exam. Check the exact programme, intake, test version, minimum component scores and visa rules.

Coverage and source notes
  • No single national admissions deadline or mandatory SAT, ACT, GRE or GMAT rule applies to all programmes.
  • A verified national English-only course finder was not established in this review.

What the brochure rarely explains

Plan the whole
student journey.

Admission is one milestone. The right decision also accounts for money, documentation, learning style and life after graduation.

01

Choice with complexity

The US has thousands of institutions and very different price points. A shortlist must balance academics, outcomes, location and affordability.

02

Scholarship strategy

Merit aid, need-based aid and assistantships follow different rules. Funding should be researched alongside the university list.

03

Application story

Grades matter, but essays, activities, recommendations and programme fit can meaningfully shape a holistic application.

Your application route

From research
to visa file.

  1. 01

Build a university list across reach, match and financially realistic options.

  2. 02

Check programme-specific test, portfolio, prerequisite and credential-evaluation requirements.

  3. 03

Prepare essays, recommendations and financial-aid applications early.

  4. 04

After admission, review the I-20, SEVIS payment and F-1 visa file carefully.

From eligibility
to arrival.

We can help review your profile, compare courses and institutions, prepare applications, organise documents and plan the visa and departure stages.

First answer: should you apply?

The useful question is not only “Can I get an offer?” It is whether the academic, financial and career logic remains strong after the excitement of admission.

Are SAT or GRE scores always compulsory?+

No. Policies vary by institution and programme. A strong score can still help in some admissions or scholarship decisions.

Can community college be a valid route?+

Yes, for the right student. Cost, transfer agreements, campus support and the final degree plan should be reviewed before choosing it.
