SAT — your starting guide

The exam at a glance

Two sections each contain two modules. The second module adapts to performance in the first.

Testing time is 2 hours 14 minutes, with a 10-minute break between the two sections.

Is this the test you need?

Students applying to institutions that use SAT scores; verify the current required, optional or other score policy.

• This guide covers the digital SAT, not discontinued SAT Subject Tests.
• School Day registration is arranged through participating schools; weekend booking uses the student portal.
• Check accepted devices and arrange any required loan or accommodations well ahead of the date.

A sensible preparation route

1. Install and explore Bluebook using official guidance.
2. Use a full official practice test to identify specific reading, writing or math gaps.
3. Review errors, then practise those skills before another timed module.
