Match the policy to the journey
Ask the insurer about destination coverage, dates, traveller eligibility and the activities you will undertake.
- Confirm whether study, work, sports or multi-country travel need specific cover.
- Disclose relevant information directly to the insurer as requested, including pre-existing conditions.
- Compare medical limits, exclusions, deductibles, repatriation and emergency assistance.
- Confirm whether a short travel policy meets your needs after arrival; it may not replace longer-term student health cover.
Cancellation is a separate benefit
Check which events qualify, what evidence is needed and what costs are excluded. A change of mind or visa refusal is not automatically covered.
- Ask when coverage starts and whether there are purchase deadlines or waiting periods.
- Keep receipts and read the claim procedure and notification deadlines.
- Save the insurer’s emergency contact and the policy certificate.
Check the official visa requirement
For a visa application, use the responsible mission’s current insurance requirements, then obtain confirmation of the selected policy’s terms. A certificate is evidence to assess, not a promise that the visa will be issued.
Common questions
Is the cheapest policy sufficient for a visa?
Price does not establish compliance. Compare the current mission requirements with the actual cover, territory, validity and exclusions.
Should I send medical details in the enquiry form?
No. Keep this first enquiry general. Provide sensitive medical information directly through the insurer’s appropriate secure process.
