Two universities, different application routes
RSU and the University of Latvia offer six-year English Medicine in Riga. Compare the programme and clinical curriculum, not just the shared degree duration. The academic route includes supervised practice; postgraduate training and legal medical employment are later decisions.

Subjects, Mathematics and English
RSU’s admissions guidance uses required school subjects and academic selection. Its English-medium-school exemption should be documented with the form the university accepts. A student who studied Mathematics only up to Class 10 should ask whether that satisfies the programme’s specific requirement.
LU’s current Medicine page requires at least 8/10 in Biology and Chemistry for its stated non-EU route, a minimum overall average of 6/10 and no failed grades. Obtain an official conversion rather than converting Indian percentages informally.

LU’s SAT requirement is not a Latvia-wide test
LU lists a SAT total of at least 1200 for applicants whose secondary education was completed outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland, plus an online interview. That is relevant to Indian schooling and needs exact qualification assessment for CBSE students in Oman.
RSU does not become a SAT-required route merely because another Latvian university uses SAT. NEET remains a separate India-related requirement.

RSU has published 2027 tables, with a calendar inconsistency
For February 2027 Medicine, RSU’s table gives other non-EU/EEA applicants 4 September–1 November 2026; the additional-assessment citizenship group closes on 1 October. Classes begin 2 February 2027. Do not choose the category from an Oman residence card alone.
Its September 2027 table lists 1 March–1 May for other non-EU/EEA applicants and 1 March–1 April for the additional-assessment group. Some surrounding calendar text still says 2026, so confirm the chosen 2027 window with admissions. LU’s 2027 dates are not verified here.

Annual fees and first-payment planning
The amounts below are 2026/27 figures. Six years at a unchanged price would be €81,000 at RSU or €71,100 at LU, but that calculation excludes later fee changes, housing and extra charges.
Annual fees and first-payment planning| University | Annual Medicine tuition | Other listed charges |
|---|
| RSU | €13,500 — 2026/27 | €100 application; €1,800 one-off registration/administration |
| University of Latvia | €11,850 — 2026/27 | Confirm the application invoice and recognition/immigration charges |

Application from India or lawful residence in Oman
Use RSU’s immigration guide to determine the visa and temporary-residence sequence for the applicant’s nationality. The university invitation supports the process; it does not replace the mission’s document assessment or biometrics.
Prepare passport, recognised academic records, police documentation where required, housing, insurance and accessible funds. A Latvian residence process should not be described universally as a walk-in service in Muscat.

Living funds are not the same as visa evidence
RSU’s current living guide recommends €1,200 monthly and gives shared/private examples around €1,050–1,500. This is materially higher than many older low-cost quotations.
The supplied 2026 PMLP subsistence example is €780/month and RSU immigration guidance uses roughly €9,500 accessible for a year. These immigration figures need checking for the filing date and exclude tuition; they are not a realistic all-in monthly budget.

Clinical Latvian and the internship record
English teaching does not remove the need to communicate with Latvian-speaking patients. RSU includes Latvian and medical terminology and describes patient contact from year three.
Its final-year rotations and ECTS allocations do not establish a separately verified 12-calendar-month internship. Do not assume a home-country elective satisfies India’s country/institution requirements simply because the university permits it.

Initial registration is a defined administrative step
The Health Inspectorate’s initial register service is free, normally decided within one month of a complete file and initially valid for five years. It requires the appropriate professional qualification and supporting records.
This should not be represented as automatic independent specialist certification or an employment offer. Clinical language, the relevant scope of practice and immigration/work rights still matter; RSU postgraduate medical training requires Latvian.

What to resolve before accepting
Ask each university for the exact final-year rotation calendar, the resulting internship document and the registration path actually available to an Indian graduate. Keep those answers alongside the tuition contract.
A graduate job-search residence option is separate from a medical licence. The linked European Commission guidance is a starting point for that later immigration decision, not a promise of residency training.
