2027 planning: what is published and what is pending
Cattolica’s published timetable lists the 2027 medicine application deadline as 17 February and its online test as 17 March, with an additional session possible. It lists EU and non-EU rankings on 7 and 17 April respectively. The call itself is scheduled for 14 October 2026, after this guide’s check date; this is not a claim that applications are already open.
No verified 2027 IMAT date is available in this research. Keep university eligibility checks and document preparation moving, but do not shift the 2026 timetable forward by one year.
2027 planning: what is published and what is pending| Route | Dated information | How to use it |
|---|
| Public English medicine | 2026 test: 29 September; registration: 26 August–9 September 2026 | Historical benchmark only; await the 2027 national and university calls. |
| Cattolica Rome | 2027 test: 17 March; application deadline: 17 February 2027 | Use the forthcoming call for eligibility, fee and technical requirements. |
| Other private universities | Individual calls and tests | Do not assume IMAT registration covers HUMAT or another university’s exam. |

Understand the test and applicant category
The verified 2026 public test had 60 questions in 100 minutes: 4 reading/general knowledge, 5 logic, 23 biology, 15 chemistry and 13 mathematics/physics. Marking was +1.5 for a correct answer, −0.4 for a wrong answer and zero for a blank. These are the 2026 rules, not a published 2027 specification.
For the 2026 Padua call, non-EU applicants residing abroad competed in a local ranking for the university selected through pre-enrolment. Citizenship and residence must therefore be classified correctly before choosing a ranking strategy.

School eligibility, DoV and CIMEA
The school qualification and any entrance entitlement required in the country where it was awarded need a course-specific review. A qualifying entrance-test score does not erase a separate school-mark, subject or document condition.
The Italian Embassy in India’s 2026/27–2027/28 checklist requires competent State HRD/HED attestation followed by apostille for the specified Indian academic documents and does not accept SDM attestation for that purpose. DoV or CIMEA comparability/verification depends on the university’s requirement; students should not automatically purchase both.
For an Indian qualification held by an Oman resident, document recognition still concerns the issuing country, while visa jurisdiction concerns lawful residence. Keep these two decisions separate.

Compare annual fees using the right category
Low public-university fee examples are category-specific. They are not a price promise to every Indian passport holder, overseas Indian or family with income abroad. Ask for the classification and required financial documents before relying on a low-fee bracket.
The table preserves the supplied fee evidence and its cycle. Later-year increases, changed classifications and additional costs can alter the six-year total. A current annual rate multiplied by six is only a planning calculation.
Compare annual fees using the right category| Example | Annual amount and scope | Fee-year limit |
|---|
| Messina | €256 total for the cited India country-of-origin Group B; initial €156 is included | Schedule effective 2025/26; confirm the applicant’s category and new-cycle rate. |
| Pavia | €390 total for the Indian-citizenship science bracket | 2026/27; do not add a generic regional charge a second time. |
| Padua | €3,198: €2,990 contribution + €192 regional tax + €16 stamp | 2026/27; programme/campus and exemptions need confirmation. |
| Cattolica | €18,150 annual medicine benchmark | Current supplied fee schedule, not a confirmed 2027/28 offer. |
| Humanitas | €23,206 for the cited non-EU category | 2026/27; do not assume a competitive scholarship. |

Living costs and the first payment
Pavia’s published indication is €600–1,000 a month. Rent type, transport and city matter more than a country-wide average. Request a housing quote covering the full period you will stay, including summer.
Set aside separate cash for a housing deposit, flights, visa/document charges, insurance and any test or application fee. Read the university’s deposit deadline and visa-refusal refund wording before paying. An immigration maintenance amount is evidence of living funds, not an extra university fee.

Student visas from India and Oman
The India checklist specifies €10,179.85 support funds in addition to tuition and other costs, six months of bank evidence, sponsor/funds-source evidence, at least 30 days of accommodation and one year of medical insurance. Prepare a traceable funding story instead of an unexplained last-minute deposit.
For lawful residents of Oman, Italy’s Muscat embassy states that study visas are handled directly by the embassy, with appointments requested through visti.mascate@esteri.it. This is not the same as India’s submission workflow. Follow the linked mission instructions for your category and fingerprint appointment.
Use the official checklist/form route below. Do not assume a general three-year bachelor’s visa deadline also governs a six-year medicine course, or that a university offer gives priority visa processing.

English lectures do not remove Italian from medicine
Clinical placements involve Italian-speaking patients, records and healthcare teams. Bologna and Pavia publish their own Italian-language pathways; the target and deadline should be read for the selected programme.
Begin clinical Italian while studying the early sciences. Ask the programme which language assessment unlocks patient-facing placements, whether language teaching is included and what happens if the required milestone is missed.

Clinical rotations, TPVES and registration
Italian qualifying practical assessment, commonly called TPVES, is not interchangeable with a separate twelve-month internship. The supplied university guidance describes a three-month/15-credit qualifying component across medicine, surgery and general practice within the degree pathway.
Retain the complete clinical schedule, placement hospitals, supervision and assessment records. Graduation, entry in the relevant medical register and competitive specialty admission are distinct stages. Italian language remains important after the English degree.

Before committing to a return-to-India plan
Ask the university for a written account of course months, clinical subjects, every internship or qualifying placement, the awarding institution, training countries and local registration entitlement. Have that exact route reviewed against the Indian rules that apply to you.
Do not describe a course as “NMC approved” merely because the university or qualification appears in a directory. For Italy, the main unresolved question is often how the actual clinical and qualifying-practice structure meets the required internship conditions, not whether the brochure says six years.
