GRE General Test
Start with the skills.
Build your foundations with 7 short lessons and 44 original questions. Begin with the 8-question starter or choose a focused topic or one of two fresh Quant sets below.
One lesson at a time.
Read an explanation, follow a worked example and check your understanding before choosing a practice set.
- Lesson 1 · About 4 minutes→
Use context before a word list
Interpret completion clues and contextual meaning.
- →
- Lesson 3 · About 4 minutes→
Use examples and totals
Review comparisons, averages, combinations and geometry.
- Lesson 4 · About 5 minutes→
Translate quantities into equations
Choose the correct base, unit and condition before calculating.
- Lesson 5 · About 5 minutes→
Use the conditions, not a first impression
Connect geometry, probability and data questions to a complete model.
- Lesson 6 · About 5 minutes→
Build the sample space before calculating
Choose the correct group, event and numerical bounds in probability and data questions.
- Lesson 7 · About 5 minutes→
Use cases to test what must be true
Distinguish a proof from an example and preserve sign, boundary and counting restrictions.
Start small. Focus. Then mix it up.
Each set has untimed practice or an optional practice timer, plus an explanation for every answer. Quant sets A and B have no questions in common and do not repeat the earlier starter or topic questions. Other sets can overlap.
Quick start
Four verbal and four quantitative questions. No scored essay, adaptive sections or complete selection of official response formats.
Open this set →2 questions · Optional 4 minWords in context
Focus on words in context. Start with the related foundation lesson, then use the explanations to review. This set extends beyond the short lesson.
Open this set →2 questions · Optional 4 minReading and argument
Focus on reading and argument. Start with the related foundation lesson, then use the explanations to review. This set extends beyond the short lesson.
Open this set →4 questions · Optional 8 minQuantitative reasoning
Focus on quantitative reasoning. Start with the related foundation lesson, then use the explanations to review. This set extends beyond the short lesson.
Open this set →6 questions · Optional 13 minQuant: ratios, rates and equations
Six original questions on percentages, ratios, rates, equations, remainders and comparison.
Open this set →6 questions · Optional 15 minQuant: geometry, data and conditions
Six original questions on geometry, statistics, probability, weighted means and integer conditions.
Open this set →12 questions · Optional 28 minQuant recap: 12 questions
A recap of the same twelve questions in the two new Quant builders; it adds no extra unique questions.
Open this set →12 questions · Optional 21 minGRE Quant set A
12 fresh original questions with a 21-minute timed option. Sets A and B use different questions. Fixed comparison and single-answer practice, not a full or adaptive mock.
Open this set →12 questions · Optional 21 minGRE Quant set B
12 fresh original questions with a 21-minute timed option. Sets A and B use different questions. Fixed comparison and single-answer practice, not a full or adaptive mock.
Open this set →6 questions · Optional 12 minBuild the sample space before calculating
Original short quantitative lesson. Its six companion questions reuse items from Quant practice sets A and B; they are not six additional unique questions or a new mock.
Open this set →8 questions · Optional 16 minUse cases to test what must be true
Original short quantitative lesson. Its eight companion questions reuse items from Quant practice sets A and B; they add no unique questions and are not a separate mock.

Where this fits.
Graduate applicants whose chosen programmes require or accept GRE General results. The separate GRE Subject Tests are not represented by this bank.
The current General Test lasts about 1 hour 58 minutes: one 30-minute Analytical Writing task; two Verbal sections with 12/15 questions in 18/23 minutes; and two Quantitative sections with 12/15 questions in 21/26 minutes. Verbal and Quantitative use section-level adaptation.
- Verbal: understand and evaluate text, infer meaning and interpret relationships among words and ideas.
- Quantitative: arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis.
- Analytical Writing assesses reasoned written argument and requires separate evaluation.
Structure and Quant response formats checked 7 October 2026. The 2026–27 policy bulletin was separately checked on 29 September; registration fees and live appointments were not rechecked in this update.
ETS provides free POWERPREP 1 untimed and POWERPREP 2 timed practice alongside paid products. The untimed test does not provide Verbal or Quantitative scores. Use official practice for the adaptive full-test experience.
The ETS 2026–27 policy bulletin runs from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. General Test seats remain appointment-based; no specific 2027 seat or university deadline is confirmed here.
