First check that Mumbai is the right office
The location where your qualification was issued determines DoV jurisdiction. Your residence determines the visa route. These can be different. Mumbai lists VFS submission and a Uni-Italia route; combining DoV and visa is possible only under the consulate’s stated conditions.
What the June 2026 checklist changes in practice
The 2026/27 checklist requires competent Higher Education Department attestation and MEA apostille for the qualification and transcript/marksheets. Its digital/e-Sanad route still requires the specified originals and HTE attestation. SDM attestation is rejected. English documents in these academic-record items do not require Italian translation.
Use the application and privacy forms in the same PDF. Follow its passport, provisional-certificate and name-discrepancy requirements. A self-declaration does not replace the specified official same-name certificate.
Processing may take 90 days from consular receipt, excluding additional-document waits.
A study purpose does not always mean a free DoV
The standard study checklist asks for admission and a Universitaly pre-enrolment summary. If a university requires DoV before that stage, obtain its official requirement letter; the checklist points to CIMEA or a paid DoV. It expressly puts PhD, research, employment and absence of the pre-enrolment summary in the paid category. Confirm the applicable consular and provider charges before submission; no all-inclusive price or blanket fee exemption is established here.
Arrange the next step before surrendering originals
Write down which originals each office will retain, whether the marksheets or a consolidated transcript are accepted, who will return them, and the expected delivery method. Keep scans and receipts. If an admission deadline is close, ask the university about an accepted alternative before buying a second service.
DoV preparation does not replace university admission, Universitaly pre-enrolment or a visa application. Follow the consulate’s current study procedure for the sequence.
