Work backwards from the receiving authority

First identify who will receive the document: an Italian university, CIMEA, a consulate or a scholarship body. Ask which original or certified document it needs, which signature must be authenticated, whether electronic delivery is accepted and whether a translation is required. A route accepted for employment in another country should not be assumed to satisfy an Italy study checklist.

  • Record the exact qualification or financial document, its issuer and the intended purpose.
  • Use the issuing state’s competent authority and the recipient’s current checklist.
  • Keep official receipts and scans before handing over originals.

Where notary, HRD, Home Department and Mantralaya fit

These labels describe different offices or operations. A notary’s certification of a copy is not the university confirming an award. State authentication is not the same as MEA apostille. Mantralaya names Maharashtra’s government headquarters; it is not itself a single internationally accepted credential service.

Maharashtra’s published materials describe departmental authentication and an online educational-attestation route. Some official pages are old or undated. Confirm today’s sequence with the competent state education authority, including whether university verification, a notarial step, an appointment or physical originals are required in your case. Do not follow a universal social-media chain for every document.

What an apostille does, and what it costs

MEA’s apostille authenticates the relevant signature/seal for international use; it does not assess your academic achievement. For documents outside e-Sanad, follow the competent state authentication route and MEA’s authorised submission arrangements. e-Sanad depends on eligible electronic records and issuer verification, not simply uploading any scan.

MEA lists ₹50 per apostille sticker, a provider collection/processing charge of ₹84 per document and scanning at ₹3 per page. These are distinct components, not a complete university-to-Italy quote. University, state, translation, courier or other applicable charges must be checked separately.

MEA’s 2025 Citizen Charter gives a usual seven-working-day service period after documents reach MEA. University and state processing, collection and delivery are additional, so the complete journey can take longer.

Match the final document to the Italy requirement

For a Mumbai study DoV, use the mission’s current academic-year checklist. For a university authenticity check or a CIMEA request, use that recipient’s accepted methods. An apostille does not replace any separate evaluation of the qualification’s level.
