What the test involves

The general January 2026 TOEFL format uses adaptive reading and listening alongside writing and speaking. These section estimates do not establish the format of a separately specified Australia booking.

Allow approximately two hours. Directions and adaptation mean the section estimates are not the appointment duration.

Scores and what happens next

• Current reports use the 1–6 scale in half-point steps, with a comparable overall 0–120 score during the transition.
• Ask the institution how its published requirement applies to your test date; do not invent a conversion or acceptance guarantee.
