ADMISSION / AT A GLANCE

Entrance tests in Lithuania.

University entrance tests, with exemptions

LSMU and Vilnius run separate admission assessments. A named qualification or high external score may exempt an applicant from the university test; it does not guarantee admission.

Admission sources checked . Each requirement retains its programme and intake scope.

LSMU entrance test and interview

Normally required: motivational interview, then 90-minute Biology/Chemistry test. Published test exemptions include NEET 650 or IMAT 57; confirm the remaining interview and English requirements.

Applies to: LSMU international Medicine applicants unless an accepted exemption applies

Official requirements for LSMU entrance test and interview ↗

Vilnius Medicine entrance examination

Normally required; listed alternative test results include NEET 650+, IMAT 50+ or MCAT 500+, valid for two years. Certain final school qualifications also qualify for exemption.

Applies to: Vilnius international Medicine; exemption assessment is programme-specific

Official requirements for Vilnius Medicine entrance examination ↗

An admission test, language requirement and medical licensing examination serve different purposes. For Indian citizens and OCI applicants, NEET eligibility is a separate India-return planning requirement; it does not automatically replace the destination university’s selection.

Qualification and duration
Integrated Medicine qualification, generally 360 ECTS; the exact professional title is university-specific. 6 years, with clinical training; specialty residency is additional.
Admission route
Recognised science school qualification, university selection and English evidence; high external test scores may grant a specific examination exemption.
Patient / clinical language
Lithuanian for clinical patients and professional practice; residency normally operates in Lithuanian.
Tuition at the selected universities
2026/27: LSMU €12,800/year in years 1–3 and €13,300 in years 4–6; Vilnius €14,100/year. Application, testing and residence costs are separate.
Living budget
€500–800/month is a country-level planning estimate from the supplied official study profile. LSMU dorm examples of €150–250/month are capacity-limited; private housing can cost more.
India-return planning

Admission, a directory listing or a foreign degree is not a guarantee of Indian registration. Indian citizens and OCI applicants planning India return must assess the exact programme, internship and local professional status against the applicable NMC rules before paying. An internship certificate or six-year course length does not establish a full 12-month foreign internship. Check supervised-practice status, Lithuanian language and lawful work eligibility. Read the Indian requirements →

Your application, step by step.

  1. Match the school qualification to Medicine

Check Biology/Chemistry, any Mathematics expectation, qualification age and English evidence. Ask for the exact local-licensing and internship route before committing.

  2. Apply with recognised records

Submit diploma, transcript, passport, photograph, motivation and English evidence. Arrange apostille/legalisation and translations through the proper issuing authority.

  3. Complete the interview and science assessment

Book the university test or request an evidenced exemption. LSMU’s interview precedes its written test, so missing the interview can end that test booking.

  4. Accept the offer and review payments

Sign the study agreement after reviewing refunds and the fee year. LSMU’s non-EU Medicine deposit is generally half the annual tuition; use the actual invoice.

  5. Apply for the long-term residence route

Obtain the university mediation number and use MIGRIS with the appointed service provider for document checks/biometrics. Do not rely on a short-stay Schengen visit for a six-year programme.

Kaunas and Vilnius routes

LSMU in Kaunas and Vilnius University offer integrated English Medicine. The academic programme includes biomedical and clinical study; a graduate’s permitted clinical scope is governed by professional licensing, not by the marketing name of the degree.

School subjects and English evidence

LSMU requests Biology/Chemistry records and also describes Mathematics knowledge as important. Its page retains differing English certificate descriptions, including B1/B2 and different TOEFL formats. Obtain confirmation of the accepted current score rather than treating one copied value as a universal waiver.

Vilnius uses its own university assessment and lists English proofs and qualification conditions. The published age-of-school-qualification rule matters for applicants who have already taken several gap years.

Know which examination you are actually booking

LSMU’s online selection includes a motivational interview and a 90-minute test with 30 Biology and 30 Chemistry MCQs. An English assessment may be required. Its NEET 650 exemption is an examination-exemption threshold, not the qualifying NEET score for all applicants.

Vilnius lists its own entrance assessment and high-score exemptions, including NEET 650+, IMAT 50+ and MCAT 500+. Verify the current exemption in the relevant call; old references to discontinued exams should not drive preparation.

2026 dates are benchmarks, not a 2027 invitation

Newer source check — 10 October 2026

LSMU has now published its 2027 calendar: applications open 1 November 2026 and close at 00:00 on 6 July 2027. Its earlier pending-calendar note below is retained as historical context; Vilnius remains separate. Read the update and official source ↑

LSMU’s 2026 regular deadline was 6 July, followed by a selected-programme round ending 30 July. The reviewed page has not established its 2027 application calendar.

Vilnius’s supplied 2026 non-EU example used 1 May as application deadline and 14 May as the final eligible test date. A 2027 place or test slot must be confirmed from a new call.

Fee-year-specific cost comparison

LSMU’s listed six-year tuition totals €78,300 under the 2026/27 schedule; its application and registration charges are €150 and €250. Vilnius’s €14,100 current annual price gives €84,600 over six years only if unchanged. Do not treat either calculation as a guaranteed all-in cost.

Recognition and long-term residence

The university evaluates foreign qualifications. For an India-issued certificate used by a student living in Oman, organise authentication according to the certificate’s issuer rather than treating country of residence as the issuing authority.

For the long Medicine course, prepare the study temporary-residence application through MIGRIS. LSMU’s reproduced external-service list includes India but not Oman; the competent authority must confirm where an Oman resident can lodge.

Lithuanian is part of preparation for patient care

Academic English does not remove clinical Lithuanian requirements. Vilnius’s source contains both B1 and B2 descriptions at the six-semester point; obtain the current progression standard and prepare for the higher language demand.

LSMU describes Lithuanian-language residency with B2 required. A student who intends to remain for specialty training should plan language study throughout the degree.

Clinical practice and a qualifying internship are different evidence

LSMU’s linked practice regulation describes clinical practice and certification, including the possibility of approved external placements. It does not independently establish a full 12-calendar-month foreign internship for every student.

Before taking a placement outside Lithuania, assess the Indian return rules for the institution/country of training. Retain the programme-specific dates, rotations, hours, qualification status and completion certificate.

The regulator requires language and work eligibility

VASPVT’s guidance, updated 5 October 2026, requires a foreign applicant to provide identity/citizenship evidence, lawful residence and work eligibility, the relevant Lithuanian-language evidence, medical qualification and health documentation. Its listed licence fee is €20.

A Lithuanian degree, an English transcript or a post-study residence document does not by itself satisfy all of these requirements. Ask which scope the initial licence permits and what further residency is needed.

Living costs and the later career stage

Use the €500–800 monthly country estimate as a starting budget, then replace housing and utilities with actual Kaunas/Vilnius quotes. The estimate is not the Migration Department’s required proof-of-means threshold.

Graduate job-search residence and specialty-training admission are separate processes. The official country guidance describes the immigration route; neither a residency job nor an independent medical practice right follows automatically.

Quick admission answers for Lithuania.

Is NEET 650 the minimum for all Lithuanian medical applications?

No. It is a listed exemption threshold for the university entrance examination at these two institutions, not the general NEET qualifying threshold or a nationwide admissions cutoff.

Can I use the same exemption score for LSMU and Vilnius?

Check each university. Their published IMAT exemption thresholds differ: 57 at LSMU and 50+ at Vilnius. Vilnius also limits the age of accepted test results.
