Six-year English medical degrees at Athens and Crete offer school-leaver routes at Greek public universities. They have separate admission criteria and published tuition; public status does not mean tuition-free English medicine.

The directory counts cover selected international medicine routes. Any wider national reference has its own year and applicant scope. Separate faculties and entry routes may have separate profiles; current intake availability is stated in each profile.
The listed English programmes assess applicants individually. UCAT or MCAT can be an accepted qualification route rather than a test compulsory for all applicants.
Admission sources checked . Each requirement retains its programme and intake scope.
UCAT / MCAT
Accepted alternatives in the published Athens and Crete criteria; not a universal requirement for every qualification route.
Applies to: Applicants using a standardised-test route; score-year rules are programme-specific.
An admission test, language requirement and medical licensing examination serve different purposes. For Indian citizens and OCI applicants, NEET eligibility is a separate India-return planning requirement; it does not automatically replace the destination university’s selection.
Qualification and duration
Medical degree 6 years
Admission route
School-leaver selection; qualification equivalence is assessed by the university
Patient / clinical language

Athens: €17,000/year for 2026/27. Crete: current published €15,000/year; confirm the 2027 offer.

India-return planning
These examples establish admission and fee options. A complete route to the separate twelve-month foreign internship and local registration required for an Indian return has not been established for every course. Resolve that before accepting an offer. Read the Indian requirements →
Your application, step by step.
01Establish your route+
Athens and Crete have different school-qualification rules. Indian Class 12 applicants should use the appropriate national-certificate/equivalence route, not assume an A-level table converts directly.

Use the destination’s long-stay study route for your nationality and legal country of residence. An Indian passport holder living in Oman must follow the consular jurisdiction for their residence; a tourist visa is not the degree-study route.

Athens: the English medical degree
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens accepts several qualification routes. Its current requirements include strong school results and specified science preparation; applicants with Indian school certificates need the university’s equivalence decision. Its published English alternatives include IELTS 7.5 overall with at least 6.5 in each component. The requirements page still contains a 2026 document date; that is not a confirmed 2027 deadline.
Crete’s international route is for eligible non-Greek applicants educated outside Greece. The national-school-certificate option asks for at least 80% overall, Biology plus two other listed sciences, and above 80% in each of those subjects. IELTS 6.5 is one published English option. Selected candidates are interviewed.
Athens publishes €17,000 a year for 2026/27; the €5,000 deposit is credited to tuition. Crete publishes €15,000 a year and a €3,000 non-refundable acceptance deposit. Follow the offer’s payment schedule and refund conditions rather than adding the deposit to tuition twice.
Crete describes early and regular application rounds around November and March. These are recurring guidance, not independently confirmed closing dates for a particular 2027 intake. Athens’ dated annual call should govern its cycle. Prepare the science transcript and English evidence before a call opens.
English classroom teaching does not remove the need to communicate with patients in Greek. Obtain the course’s language milestones and the location of each clinical placement. If India is the intended destination after graduation, the exact internship duration, institution and local-registration eligibility need a separate written assessment.
Each profile keeps its own faculty, fee year and applicant category. INR and OMR are planning conversions from 7 October 2026, rounded for comparison. They are not live exchange rates or payment quotes.
USD estimates use ECB reference rates dated 9 October 2026 and Bank of Russia rates effective 10 October 2026. Rounded planning amounts for the same fee period; bank rates and transfer charges differ.
Science grades and qualification route matter. Crete accepts several academic/standardised-test routes; a UCAT or MCAT route is not compulsory for every applicant.
Must every applicant take UCAT to study medicine in English in Greece?
No. Crete lists alternative routes such as IB, A levels and qualifying national-school science results alongside UCAT and MCAT. An admissions officer must assess your exact qualification.
Can I reuse the test years shown on Athens’ page for 2027?
Do not assume so. The checked Athens page still names UCAT 2024/2025 and MCAT 2024–2026. Those published score years do not establish its future intake rules.
Guide edition: 2026-10-08. Dated checks below identify sources reopened for this edition; other references are retained from the supplied medicine research. Each fee keeps its original academic year.
