Start with your applicant category
This guide is for applicants with a foreign entry qualification planning a bachelor's, single-cycle or master's degree in Italy. Citizenship, residence and qualification country answer different questions. A non-EU applicant living abroad may need the visa route; an EU citizen with a foreign diploma still needs the qualification assessed. A residence permit in Italy does not automatically establish EU-equivalent admission status. Bologna's enrolment guide sets out separate categories and directs uncertain cases to its International Desk.
- Record every citizenship, your current country of legal residence and any Italian permit type.
- Record the education system and awarding institution for your qualification, even if you studied in another country.
- Keep foundation, exchange, PhD and specialist university master's courses separate from ordinary degree applications.
Check eligibility before choosing a deadline
At Padua, bachelor's and single-cycle applicants generally need a 12-year school record, with specified ways to compensate for shorter schooling. Master's applicants need an accredited prior qualification and the required academic background. This is an institutional example: confirm your exact qualification and programme rules at each university.
- Compare your qualification with the university's country guidance.
- Read subject prerequisites, minimum grades, language evidence and any entrance-test rules.
- If you are still studying, find the final qualification deadline and whether a conditional application is allowed.
Turn the programme call into a task list
Bologna directs applicants to the programme's admission call for selection and language requirements. Use that same source-first approach across your shortlist. Create one record for each programme and intake; a general university page cannot resolve every exception.
- Save the exact programme name, campus, teaching language and academic year.
- Separate test booking, admission submission, offer acceptance, scholarship and enrolment dates.
- Prepare the requested documents, pay any stated application fee and save the submission receipt.
- Check the portal inbox for missing-document requests and selection outcomes.
What is confirmed for 2027/28
Padua announces its first 2027/28 call for most programmes from 15 September to 15 November 2026. Programme factsheets still govern exceptions. Its courses start around September/October, and direct second-semester enrolment is unavailable.
Universitaly's current national procedures cover 2026/27 and 2027/28. For 2027/28, the outer visa-application deadline for ordinary degree courses is 31 October 2027. Universities can impose earlier visa dates. This is not a common admission deadline.
Follow the visa branch if it applies
Visa-related pre-enrolment must go through the official, free Universitaly portal. University validation supports the visa process but does not guarantee an appointment or a visa. Follow the responsible Italian mission's instructions and the university's enrolment steps.
- Confirm when your university wants you to submit Universitaly pre-enrolment.
- Track admission, pre-enrolment validation, visa and final enrolment as separate milestones.
- Plan housing, insurance, arrival documents and any residence-permit steps using official arrival guidance.
Before you rely on this timeline
Checked 20 September 2026. Apart from the dated items above, this is a planning framework rather than a verified 2027/28 call for every institution. Reopen the programme call before submitting or paying. If your category or qualification is unusual, request a written clarification from the university using your exact documents and intended intake.
