01

Check APS applicability first

This guide concerns applicants whose educational background may come under APS India. The German Missions in India say Indian school or university qualifications usually require APS, while listing exemptions such as certain publicly funded scholarships, PhD/PostDoc study and foreign-system qualifications. Check the official exemption against your exact situation; dMAT exemption and APS exemption are different questions.

  • Identify the qualification and academic stage you will use for admission.
  • Open the applicable APS checklist before paying or sending documents.
  • If you claim an exemption, retain the official basis and supporting evidence.
02

Which master's applicants face dMAT

g.a.s.t. states that the introduction covers previous degrees in Engineering; Commerce, Accounting, Finance or Economics; and Business or Management for German master's entry from Summer 2027 onward. Its first phase uses the General Academic Module.

Use APS India's affected-fields PDF for the precise classification. Standalone Computer Science, BCA, IT or Data Science is not automatically included simply because it is computing-related. An engineering designation can change the result. APS considers the official title, branch, transcript and recognition rules.

  • Map your previous qualification, not just the master's you want to study.
  • For mixed or ambiguous degrees, seek APS clarification with the exact award title and transcript.
  • Check institution and degree recognition independently of the test.
03

Check the transition and exclusions

APS exempts the same procedure if online registration was completed before 29 June 2026 OR complete documents were shipped before that date. An already completed APS procedure is also exempt. A new APS application can trigger the rules then in force.

The current exclusions include bachelor's applicants, PhD applicants, unaffected fields and officially confirmed exchange, double-degree or partnership programmes. They also include bachelor's students who have not completed at least five semesters of a three-year programme or seven of a four-year programme. Review the full official wording for your academic stage.

  • Keep the registration timestamp and complete-document shipment evidence.
  • Do not treat an early draft account or incomplete shipment as proof of the stated transition.
  • Keep official partnership or exchange confirmation where relevant.
04

Understand the document sequence

Where dMAT is required, APS allows the other complete application documents to arrive before the test certificate, but cannot issue the APS certificate until the dMAT certificate is received and checked. That concession does not allow additional or updated academic qualification documents to be added with it for the same procedure.

  • Decide which completed academic stage your APS evaluation should document.
  • Use the corresponding checklist and keep a copy of everything submitted.
  • Track the APS verification and g.a.s.t. test/result process separately.
05

The first test schedule is already dated

The official first-administration schedule lists registration closing on 15 September 2026, the test on 26 September 2026 and results/certificates on 12 October 2026. As of this review, that registration deadline has passed. This guide has not verified a later test date or an available seat.

g.a.s.t. provides test preparation materials, registration, centre booking and results. Use its official materials to understand the on-screen tasks before selecting additional preparation.

06

What the result does and does not establish

Treat the sequence as several decisions: your degree must be recognisable, your documents must meet the applicable procedure, and the university must assess your programme application. A test certificate alone cannot settle all of them. Checked 20 September 2026: recheck APS notices and the test-provider schedule before booking, especially if you change intake or submit a new APS procedure.
